Jesus on Mission: Jesus, Possessions and Minimalism

Americans link happiness to material possessions. Jesus told his disciples to go out on mission and not take anything but the bare necessities. Actually, not even all the necessities! (Matthew 10:5-10) What does this imply about our approach to possessions and our attachment to them? Is minimalism the best way to be faithful to Jesus?
